Purpose: This paper presents findings of a study that examined how health practices of immigrant women affect their food choices and practices during the perinatal period.

  • Describe ethno-cultural food choices and practices of Canadian immigrant women of African and Caribbean descent during the perinatal period.
  • Explain how health beliefs and practices of immigrant women affect their food choices and practices during the perinatal period.
  • Discuss the implications of study findings for perinatal care.

B02-2 Informed Advocacy: Nurses Providing Woman, Family, and Community-Centred Care

Purpose: To share an empirically derived Informed Advocacy framework that may be helpful for nurses.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore how nurses can use this framework to provide woman, family and community-centred care.
  • Discuss a practice story that will be analyzed using the Informed Advocacy Framework
  • Reflect on our experiences and discuss how this framework might inform nursing education and practice.
